Press Release
ZF to Showcase Driveline Systems, Motion Control, Safety Expertise at AUSA 2025
- Technology company to highlight advanced technologies and U.S. production
- Proven success in the defense industry, including American-made PowerLine transmissions, full chassis integration on Boxer vehicles
ZF’s latest-generation drivetrain and braking technologies — designed for heavy-duty off-road conditions — will be featured at AUSA, including:
- EcoLife Offroad 2: Tailored for extreme off-road performance, EcoLife Offroad 2 powershift transmission offers seamless shifting, optimized torque distribution, and enhanced thermal management. Its robust 7-speed design enables precise maneuvering in high-stress environments, while minimizing driver workload, which is critical in combat scenarios.
- Modular Braking System Platform (mBSP): ZF’s mBSP delivers advanced braking performance, modular scalability, and built-in safety redundancies. With electro-pneumatic actuation and embedded intelligence, mBSP enhances vehicle control, reduces stopping distances, and serves as a foundational technology for autonomous and semi-autonomous applications.
- PowerLine Offroad: ZF’s 8-speed automatic transmission is designed for light and medium wheeled vehicles. PowerLine Offroad combines high torque capacity of up to 1,400 Nm with outstanding gradeability of 60%. The PowerLine transmission ensures continuous power delivery and includes a mechanical limp-home mode for maximum operational safety. An optional interface allows direct mounting of transfer cases, such as the ZF VG 750, further increasing system versatility.
- APE 100 Axle Components: The APE 100 axle system is engineered for heavy-duty off-road applications, delivering maximum load capacity and durability in demanding terrain. With an axle load of up to 10.6 T and independent suspension, it improves vehicle dynamics by reducing unsprung mass compared to rigid axles. Supporting input torques up to 14,800 Nm, the system offers proven gear ratios and integrates key features such as ABS, CTIS, and direct-mount capability for 1- or 2-stage transfer cases.
These technologies work in concert to give military operators the motion control and safety needed to operate confidently across unpredictable terrains and mission profiles.
Committed to the US
ZF’s robust US manufacturing presence underscores its commitment to American defense readiness. A prime example is the company’s state-of-the-art facility in Gray Court, South Carolina, where ZF produces its industry-leading PowerLine 8-speed automatic transmission – a high-efficiency solution well-suited for both commercial and tactical vehicle applications.
“With more than 9,000 employees across the U.S. and significant investments in local production, ZF is proud to support the US defense industry with American-made, mission-critical technology,” said Thomas Chambers, Head of Industrial Technology, North America, ZF. “In addition to Gray Court (SC), our Gainesville (Georgia) facility is a center of manufacturing excellence and a cornerstone of our commitment to supplying the U.S. military and its partners with dependable, domestically produced solutions.”
Industry Experience
Further underscoring its commitment the defense industry, ZF has been supplying full chassis systems to Boxer since the 2009, and recently outfitted another 2,000 Boxer armored fighting vehicles. This partnership reflects ZF’s proven capability to deliver scalable, reliable, and integrated mobility systems for modern military needs, supporting both the demands of today’s battlefield and the transition to next-generation vehicle platforms.
“ZF’s success with the Boxer platform is more than just a delivery milestone, it’s a validation of our deep expertise in motion control, safety systems, and readiness for this industry,” said Ralf Boss, Head of Product Line Special Vehicle Systems at ZF. “From driveline integration to intelligent system design, we’re enabling military fleets to be more mobile, more protected, and more future-ready.”
