Award-winning Data Platform for More Efficient Management of Goods

  • ZF Aftermarket presents its award-winning connectivity platform “deTAGtive” for Industry 4.0 at the Hannover Trade Fair 2018
  • “deTAGtive” platform enables transparent yard management
  • New hardware tag “deTAGtive call button” completes the OPENMATICS asset tracking solution

Hannover Messe 2018 is all about Industry 4.0 and, with the guiding theme of “Integrated Industry – Connect & Collaborate,” shows the potential that this development is bringing to companies and their operational processes. OPENMATICS, the connectivity specialist from ZF Aftermarket, is presenting “deTAGtive,” a flexible and open data platform that enables networked dispatching of vehicles, efficient management of goods and service orientation in a new dimension.

The asset tracking solution “deTAGtive” allows transport and logistics processes to be seamlessly documented and networked. Hardware tags employing Bluetooth smart technology manage and monitor the entire material and goods flow process in plant yards and depots. Dispatchers can always get an overview of transports, vehicles, loading units and loading and unloading processes.

Pilot project: Dachser takes advantage of the connectivity solution

Logistics service provider Dachser already relies on OPENMATICS’ innovative asset tracking system as part of its yard management. In a pilot project, the company is documenting the entry and exit of swap bodies on its premises. “deTAGtive” allows the exact location of the containers to be recorded accurately and in real time from the primary external gate to the individual gates of the halls. The automatic identification and localization not only reduces the time required for handling the containers but also simplifies the subsequent internal processes. “The asset tracking solution in conjunction with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) opens up a large number of other application possibilities. Identification and localization of swap bodies is just the beginning,” explains Stefan Hohm, who heads the Corporate Solutions, Research & Development Corporate Unit at Dachser.

Efficient procurement of materials thanks to “deTAGtive call button”

The introduction of the new hardware tag “deTAGtive call button” completes OPENMATICS asset tracking solution and thus gets Industry 4.0 onto the shop floor as well as in the agile production of the future, as it is based around tracking the flow of autonomous transport units for material directly to the assembly line. The logistics process can now be controlled using just one system. While previous hardware tags were mainly used to monitor the flow of vehicles, goods and transport processes, the “deTAGtive call button” makes it possible to keep track of material procurement in the production environment, creating an interactive all-in-one solution for the area of intralogistics. Hand-held scanners no longer need to be used, and instead employees can place their order at the push of a button direct from their workstation as soon as material is needed. This eliminates the need for paper, and the employee can easily make their order without thinking about the process.

Operating via Bluetooth, the call buttons are compatible with other terminal units and systems. Material procurement can be carried out in the shortest amount of time, in line with demand and in accordance with the Just-in-Time principle. The employee is told the status of the order immediately via an LED indicator on the "deTAGtive Call button", which has a traffic light system. Greem means that the order is being processed, amber means that the material has been ordered and is on its way, and red means that the order cannot currently be completed. Thomas Rösch, general manager of OPENMATICS, explains the benefits of the "deTAGtive call buttons": “Industry 4.0 requires intelligent networking of production and material procurement – in a manner that is digital, fast and flexible. The “deTAGtive call button” provides the right solution.

Thanks to its easy installation and flexible application, it enables demand-oriented material procurement at the touch of a button and can be used in a multitude of ways across production and logistics.”

OPENMATICS wins German Telematics Award 2018 for deTAGtive

The multifaceted connectivity system from ZF Aftermarket has already won its first award: at the Future Congress for Commercial Vehicles, which took place on November 7 and 8 in Berlin. The ETM-Verlag awarded them the "German Telematics Prize 2018". The team from Openmatics won the prize for innovation for the deTAGtive interactive data platform. This is the firsrt time that this prize has been awarded, with the connectivity specialists from ZF Aftermarket winning over the five-person expert jury with deTAGtive in all five categories.
