New Pacesetter in the Aftermarket

ZF acquired TRW Automotive on May 15, 2015 and integrated the company into the organizational structure as the Active & Passive Safety Technology Division. The respective aftermarket activities still sit within this division. From January 1, 2017 there will be one single aftermarket business at ZF. The TRW name will be retained as a product brand and enhance the existing brand portfolio alongside Sachs, Lemförder, Boge, and Openmatics.

The new organization creates the second largest aftermarket organization in the automotive supplier segment with approximately 8,000 employees worldwide and a sales volume of around €3 billion. Helmut Ernst, who currently manages the ZF Services Business Unit, will head up the new organization. He is also leading the “One ZF Aftermarket” integration process together with the head of TRW Aftermarket, Neil Fryer. The new organizational structure and the management team have already been defined as part of this process.

Strong partner in the field of construction vehicles

For many decades, ZF has been a pioneer in the further development of drivelines, chassis, and steering systems for construction machinery. The main aim is for the construction machine workplace to always offer the driver maximum productivity. Customers can expect not only outstanding performance and a long service life from all ZF products, but also optimum user comfort and safety.

In its service centers, the aftersales experts offer their customers from the off highway sector services such as preventive overhauls, maintenance, retrofitting for more efficiency, comfort, and safety. The quick diagnosis and elimination of errors – also with Non-ZF products – as well as a wide range of ZF exchange units, provide for reduced down-times.

ZF Services remanufactures ZF and non-ZF transmissions, as well as clutches, torque converters, and steering systems industrially in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa. The used units are completely dismantled and undergo comprehensive manufacturing and test procedures. Afterwards, defective components are replaced by new parts from ZF volume production, if necessary. Thus, the customer always receives top-quality products with the latest volume production status. The systematic – and above all simple – return of used parts via the digital CoremanNet system is crucial to remanufacturing. For eco-friendly mobility.

Openmatics: Connectivity Solutions as competitive advantage

Digital networking and e-mobility will also change the aftermarket. “ZF's success is not only built on the company's capability to advance technologically, but also to be able to provide the right aftermarket solutions,” explains Helmut Ernst, appointed head of the new aftermarket organization. “We supply our customers not only with individual components, but also complete solutions.” In the off highway field, this ranges, for instance, from preventive diagnostics in vehicles through service experts to the management of construction vehicle fleets with the digital system concept Openmatics. Due to its open system architecture, Openmatics can share data with all relevant vehicle systems; it is therefore the perfect basis for an online diagnostics system. ZF Aftermarket will shape the future to remain among the first ports of call in the independent spare parts market.

Quickly Demonstrating Customer Value Worldwide

The 120 company locations and additional 650 certified service partners play an important role in this process because they offer ZF expertise and service wherever customers expect it. They are familiar with the local market demands and are able to best adapt ZF’s services and product portfolio to local customer needs.

“With the newly consolidated organization, we will become the second largest supplier in the automotive aftermarket. We plan to further expand our position by continually increasing sales in the growth markets of Asia and North America as well as adding to our service portfolio. We are already number one in customer service,” emphasizes Neil Fryer, future Chief Commercial Office of the joint ZF aftermarket organization.
