Friedrichshafen/Schweinfurt. After the acquisition of TRW Automotive by ZF Friedrichshafen AG in 2015, the integration of the company, known as the Active & Passive Safety Technology Division, is progressing well and constructively. ZF and its new division are known as major players in the automotive industry, yet not only large-scale productions and applications are covered within their portfolios: Both companies entail business units that focus on special niche products, their development as well as their production.
As a subsidiary of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, ZF Race Engineering GmbH is based in Schweinfurt, Germany and encompasses approximately 90 employees. ZF Race Engineering develops, produces and distributes shock absorbers, clutches, transmissions as well as additional ZF products for various applications in the motorsports world. Top racing categories around the globe from Formula 1, World Rally Championship, DTM and the 24h of Le Mans to the innovative, all-electric Formula E rely on high-tech products from ZF. Conekt is based in Solihull, United Kingdom, and employs an engineering team consisting of approximately 115 people. The unit provides the complete engineering service from product development through product validation and low volume product supply in a broad range of industries, for example aerospace, automotive, defence and energy.
As of January 1st, 2017, ZF Race Engineering and Conekt are going to operate as a single entity under the lead of ZF Race Engineering. The integration between ZF and ZF TRW offers the unique opportunity to create a single business unit of twice the size in order to fully exploit the expertise of both areas. It allows the team of ZF Race Engineering to create new integrated products and services and to support other divisions of ZF as well as a strategic realignment of the business unit to become a full-range supplier of all ZF products for specialist applications. The new organizational structure is set up to reflect the following areas of expertise: motorsports applications, special series applications, and engineering services. Additionally, the integration allows an optimized use of a wider resource pool including the global footprint and the cross-selling between products and sectors.
