Friedrichshafen / Hamburg. The world's largest ride-sharing community BlaBlaCar and ZF Friedrichshafen AG will be working together in the future. Users of the ZF mobility app "uflip" will receive a clear overview of ride-sharing offers on BlaBlaCar, and with just a few clicks can offer, or avail of, free seats.
One advantage of the ZF application software is that it draws on systems and services from other established cooperation partners. This means that drivers can use the ride-sharing function if, for example, they spontaneously decide to take along other commuters or travelers. A further feature of "uflip" is the parking space search when the user needs to travel somewhere at short notice with their own car. Here, information from the "uflip" community is used alongside data from indoor car parks. A "remember" function will even guide the user back to the parking space if needs be. There is also a new selection option that shows parking spaces with charging stations for electric cars.
"And should the user decide to choose another mode of transport, they can use "uflip" to call up public transport connections throughout Germany," says Malgorzata Wiklinska, head of the ZF Innovation Lab. Situated at the corporate headquarters in Friedrichshafen, Ms. Wiklinska's department looks into questions that relate to mobility in the future. ZF's goal is to open up new markets and to develop business models that support this process.
Noteworthy is how the ZF app has already been able to successfully connect metropolitan and urban centers with rural regions, where the traffic is nonetheless heavy. "Our cooperation with BlaBlaCar now allows us to incorporate long-haul routes into our existing range of services," Wiklinska emphasizes. In this way, drivers can offer rides or free seats using the ZF mobility app. "Passengers also get an overview of the offers on our platform, as well as the prices for seats," adds Olivier Bremer, General Manager of BlaBlaCar Deutschland.
Boasting over 25 million members, BlaBlaCar is the largest ride-sharing app for long-haul routes in the world. 10 million travelers per quarter place their trust in BlaBlaCar when organizing their trips by car. In this way travel expenses get shared. The company was founded in Paris in 2006 and its German headquarters are situated in Hamburg. Other locations can be found in Budapest, Istanbul, London, Milan, Madrid, Mexico City, Moscow, Munich, New Delhi, São Paulo and Warsaw. The name is telling, because by entering in their profile, "Bla," "BlaBla" or "BlaBlaBla," members can indicate their chattiness level, even before setting off on a journey. BlaBlaCar has been connecting drivers and passengers since April 2013, and is well-established on the German market as an alternative means of transport.
