SCHWEINFURT – Motorsport customers and owners of sporty production cars benefit from a fundamental new development in the suspension field since the beginning of the 2015 season. ZF Race Engineering presents a new module with an internal gas chamber and base valve. The dual layout guarantees huge application range: the module is offered as both axle damper and suspension strut.

The ZF Race Engineering engineers have developed a new damper generation in keeping with the STTV principle. The Single Tube Twin Valve design is a modern solution with a double pressure valve. The spring platform height is adjustable and it is offered with either a 36 or 45 millimetre piston diameter.
When compared to dampers with external gas chambers, the internal gas chamber has significant advantages regarding installation space and weight. Depending on the design and component size, these advantages can be as much as 15 per cent. Additionally, the interior base valve also permits higher damper rates in the bump direction. Furthermore, greater scope arises for the damper curve configuration. Instead of a bump rate increase, customers can also decide to reduce the gas pressure. Noticeable handling dynamic advantages are noticeable as a result.

The suspension strut is available with steel or aluminium housing and integrated reservoir. The assembly attains a high degree of rigidity as upside-down design with 40 or 50 millimetre insert. The pure axle damper version is supplied exclusively with aluminium housing. In this case, high bending stiffness is guaranteed by a 15 millimetre piston rod. Common to both versions are the optimised low friction seals, zero-play bearings and many opportunities for individual configuration – from length to stroke and set-up possibilities and specific adaptations for supplementary components like spring platforms.

ZF Race Engineering has defined a particular wide range of applications for its new design. The damper and suspension strut were conceived specifically for touring cars and GT models in motorsport. At the same time, owners of sporting, high calibre tuning cars can also rely on the advantages of the new solution.
