Electronic Braking System EBS

Electronic Braking System EBS - The Full Range of Braking Performance (EBS Axle Modulators, EBS Brake Signal Transmitter, EBS ECU)

Electronic Braking System with Anti-lock Braking functionality for pneumatically braked vehicles

  • Enables significantly shorter stopping distances compared to a conventional braking system
  • Transfers driver’s deceleration request electronically to all braking system components
  • Balances brake forces between axles of truck-trailer combination during braking procedure
  • Optimizes vehicle uptime through reduced service and maintenance efforts

ZF COMMERCIAL VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS, OFF-HIGHWAY SOLUTIONS EBS components include:

EBS_Axle_Modulator_1_Channel (fig. 20)

  • EBS_Axle_Modulator_2_Channel (fig. 21)
  • EBS Brake Signal Transmitter (fig. 22)
  • EBS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) (fig. 23)

The Electronic Braking System is also the building block for autonomous driving. The package offers high flexibility due of the distributed design and enables a wide choice of value-adding functionalities without any need for additional hardware.

Air Disc Brake PANTM 25

Air Disc Brake for heavy duty vehicles - first to market with an air disc brake for 25 inch wheel applications

  • Single-piston clamping unit enables brake torques of up to 25.000 Nm / 18,400 ft. lbs.
  • Replaces 500 mm drum brake applications
  • Up to 75% savings in labour costs on brake pad replacement vs drum brakes
  • Most reliable adjuster mechanism in any environmental condition

ZF COMMERCIAL VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS, OFF-HIGHWAY SOLUTIONS Air Disc Brake for heavy duty vehicles is the first to market with an air disc brake for 25 inch wheel applications.

The outstanding field performance is reflected in high customer satisfaction. The Air Disc Brake offers up to 75% savings in labor costs on brake pad replacement vs drum brakes. In addition the Air Disc Brake is available with an end-of-life wear sensor. The redundant sealing combined with stable metal caps protects the guiding system and provides excellent driver comfort, safety and performance (fig. 24).

TailGUARDTM

TailGUARDTM is a reversing collision avoidance system with active braking function

  • Monitors stationary and moving objects behind the vehicle and activates the vehicle brakes to help prevent collisions
  • Supports driver in safely reversing and reduces accidents in limited visibility conditions
  • Automatic stopping, forced slow down, programmable stopping distance
  • TailGUARDTM requires EBS to perform autonomous braking
  • Variable configurations (with 2 − 6 ultrasonic sensors) for different environments with ground and roof level monitoring
  • Helps avoid vehicle damage and associated accident costs

ZF COMMERCIAL VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS, OFF-HIGHWAY SOLUTIONS provides with TailGUARDTM a reversing collision avoidance system with active braking function.

TailGUARD is automatically activated when the truck’s gearbox is shifted into reverse gear. Optical and/or acoustic warning signals alert traffic participants close to the reversing vehicle. TailGUARDTM stops the vehicle automatically at a programmable distance between 50 cm and 200 cm. The driver can then slowly reverse the last few centimeters (fig. 25).

Electrohydraulics and Controls

  • Minimal components for maximum reliability
  • Rapidly fill large brakes without overheating
  • Greater resistance to fluid contaminants and viscosity
  • Customizable solutions

ZF COMMERCIAL VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS, OFF-HIGHWAY SOLUTIONS electrohydraulic and control braking components integrate electronics to improve performance and efficiency of controlled braking in off-highway machinery.

As part of a full power brake system, Electrohydraulic Brake Valve (EBV) series provide hydraulic power for normal and emergency power-off braking in electrohydraulic braking, anti-lock brake systems, and traction control systems (fig. 26).

ZF COMMERCIAL VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS, OFF-HIGHWAY SOLUTIONS offers a wide variety of electrohydraulic brake valves and accessories, each optimized for a specific full-power braking application, including retarding, hill holding, ABS, traction control and stability control.

Electrohydraulic brake valves are a full power valve for modulating output pressures up to 207 bar (3000 PSI) in proportion to the input current. In a full power brake system, these valves provide hydraulic power for normal and emergency power-off braking for electrohydraulic brake systems, anti-lock brake systems and traction control systems.

Electrohydraulic Brake Valve – Modulating_Proportional Brake Valve

The first patented electrohydraulic brake valve design for full power brake systems fig. 27).

  • Simple design with minimal components
  • Patented auto relief feature provides high flow capacity

Electrohydraulic Proportional Brake Valve

The patented EBV-M modulating valve makes it easy for customers to insert the device into existing full-power braking systems when adding smart braking features fig. 28).

  • Simple design with minimal components
  • Rated pressure at all ports of 207 bar (3000 psi)

Electronic Brake Pedal

Foot pedal with sensor designed for use in electrohydraulic brake and/or electronic throttle control applications

  • Provides force feedback proportional to pedal rotation
  • Reduces operator fatigue by removing hydraulic system noise from the cab of the machine
  • Allows the electro-/hydraulic valves to be located near the brakes for quick system response
  • Various spring packs are available to suit light to heavy pedal force requirements
  • Robust pedal design for demanding environments

ZF COMMERCIAL VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS, OFF-HIGHWAY SOLUTIONS is a global leading construction and mining solution provider providing robust pedal designs for demanding environments

A hydraulic valve can be added to the end of the pedal stroke for additional redundancy. The electronic brake pedal allows the electro-/hydraulic valves to be located near the brakes for quick system response. Various spring packs are available to suit light to heavy pedal force requirements (fig. 29).
