Truck Innovation Award 2027 for the ZF TraXon Hybrid Heavy-Duty Transmission System

  • ZF receives the “Truck Innovation Award 2027” for its TraXon Hybrid transmission technology at this year’s IAA Transportation
  • The International Truck of the Year jury recognizes the system’s combination of technical innovation, practical applicability and potential to support lower operational fuel consumption in defined heavy-duty applications
  • TraXon Hybrid supports CO₂ reductions and fuel savings while preserving operational flexibility for fleet operators.

Friedrichshafen/Hanover. At IAA Transportation 2026, ZF has been honored with the “Truck Innovation Award 2027” for its TraXon Hybrid transmission technology. The award, handed over by the International Truck of the Year jury whose 24 members represent leading commercial vehicle magazines across Europe, recognizes technologies and projects with the potential to improve efficiency and safety and to reduce operational fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in commercial road freight transport. With TraXon Hybrid, ZF demonstrates how hybridization provides an additional technology option for reducing operational CO2 emissions in suitable heavy-duty applications.

Truck Innovation Award 2027 for the ZF TraXon Hybrid Heavy-Duty Transmission System

The International Truck of the Year jury selected ZF’s TraXon Hybrid for the Truck Innovation Award 2027, citing its technical innovation and potential for practical application in heavy-duty transport. By integrating hybrid technology directly into the transmission architecture, the system gives vehicle manufacturers an additional route to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions while maintaining the flexibility required for a broad range of heavy-duty applications and markets.

At the award ceremony, International Truck of the Year jury chairman Florian Engel emphasized: “By intelligently integrating hybridization into a proven heavy-duty transmission platform, ZF TraXon Hybrid demonstrates that the transition toward more sustainable road freight transport will be defined by a broad portfolio of technologies.” The jury was particularly impressed by the combination of technological maturity, practical applicability and the potential to make electrification accessible to a wide range of heavy-duty vehicle applications and markets.

Building on the jury’s recognition, Andreas Moser, Member of the ZF Board of Management and responsible for the division Commercial Vehicle Solutions, underlined the significance of the prize: “Receiving the internationally recognized industry award for TraXon Hybrid acknowledges the system’s practical value for defined heavy-duty applications. Our technologies make an important contribution to the transformation of commercial road freight transport. My sincere thanks go to the entire ZF team whose expertise, commitment and collaboration made the development of this innovative system possible.”

Emission reduction and economic efficiency

Calculations using the VECTO simulation tool indicate a CO2 reduction potential of up to 47 percent in long-haul transport under the defined simulation conditions and provided that recharging is carried out consistently. Depending on national implementation, vehicle configuration and eligibility criteria, qualifying plug-in hybrid trucks may be assigned to CO2emission class 4 and may therefore be eligible for reduced road charges.

ZF at IAA Transportation 2026

ZF is showcasing TraXon Hybrid alongside its latest technologies for safer, cleaner and smarter commercial vehicles at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover. Visitors and media representatives can experience ZF’s technology portfolio in Hall 21, Booth B42, until September 20, 2026.
